Puri Coastal Marathon 2026 to offer Rs. 1 cr cash award
Odisha has officially unveiled the Puri Coastal Marathon 2026, a landmark event scheduled for December 13 that blends sand and road running—making it India’s only marathon of its kind. Backed strongly by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy CM Pravati Parida, the marathon reflects the state’s growing commitment to sports, fitness, tourism and community participation. With a ₹1 crore prize purse, the event aims to position Puri as a premier sports‑tourism destination while showcasing its coastline, cultural heritage and spiritual significance.
Cricket legend Kapil Dev attended the launch, praising Odisha’s expanding sports ecosystem and highlighting the importance of running in building athletic discipline. The event also honoured national achievers such as Baranica Elangovan, India’s first Asian Games pole vault medallist, and Animesh Kujur, the national 200m record holder.
The marathon’s visual identity, official medal, jersey and promotional videos were unveiled, reinforcing Odisha’s ambition to merge sports with tourism. A statewide promo run held on World Tourism Day further boosted public engagement and awareness. As preparations advance, the Puri Coastal Marathon aims to celebrate endurance, inspire healthier lifestyles and strengthen Odisha’s reputation as a rising hub for major sporting events.
